Well, this week has been pretty good so far. Actually, this year has been amazing so far. I am content with where my life is right now and also with where it seems to be going. Its going in one of two directions, both good, both will take a lot of time and work. I am hoping that I will be able to juggle the two, while getting far in each for a long time, but we’ll see how that goes. The first is going to school for Mech. Engineering. I’m in what’s supposed to be my 3rd year and as far as I know, I should be graduating in 2013. However, if something happens and I add an extra semester or year, it is what it is. I’m pretty sure 2013 is the year though. Anyway, since I’ve been consistently working with my father I have a new found love for the engineering world. Also, it has brought me and my father closer and eased the tension in my entire family. I just hope that I can be as successful as he and my sister are right now.
The second is my band. Yes, I have a band. Currently it consists of just myself and my best friend. We both play guitar, but I also am a master at slappin the baaaass. No, but really I do have a band, and to be honest we’re actually very good. Mike (my bandmate and best friend) is very good at writing riffs and chord progressions, and I’m very good at taking whatever he plays and throwing the perfect solo/addition over it to make the song complete. We have both found that we don’t always get that sound when we play with anyone else other than each other. So, basically we’re at the point in our lives where its time to shit or get off the pot. I vote shit. So basically what we need to do, is actually sit down and organize our music, make rough recordings so we know how we sound, which is actually pretty good since we have pretty good equipment, but we also need to find a drummer and bassist. I mean he plays a little bass, but mainly guitar and harmonica. I play guitar, bass, harmonica (better than I thought I did), and not bad with a set of bongos. I just want to organize all of our music and get it recorded and on cd and hope for the best.
I mean so far, every person that has heard us play has said that we’re great and they love listening to us, so thats a great sign no? I know, that once we get out there, playing places, even at bars that we wont have a hard time finding a fanbase and having that fanbase grow. I mean we basically play a mixture of blues, funk, and alternative rock. SOme people have described us as a mix of the greatful dead or phish with some country backings with a little more of a mainstream rock sound. I personally don’t know about the last part, but the first two I can agree with. So now its just a matter of getting our shit together and doing something with it. I have another project on the side as well which is my own. The things I do on my own are mainly acoustic, but I am starting to make songs that would involve a whole band. My personal musical sound for what I write is a mix of rasta, funk, flamenco, and blues. It sounds odd, I know, but something about it just makes me feel different, and in a good way. I hope to play for people soon so they can tell me if I’m actually good solo, or just stick with the band. I just would love to get my degree and become famous and get signed.
